Counseling for Anxiety and Depression
Through understanding relational, situational, internal, and behavioral factors that are contributing to a depressed mood and/or feelings of anxiety, therapy can help individuals develop coping mechanisms to help them feel less overwhelmed by strong emotions.
Therapy for anxiety and depression integrates components of CBT and DBT, to help individuals explore thoughts, behaviors, and situational factors leading to emotional suffering. Therapy will help individuals modify how they approach feared and difficult situations, develop better coping mechanisms and problem solving skills, and feel more in control of their lives.
Some CBT techniques are:
- Developing an awareness of patterns of thinking
- Challenging ineffective thought patterns
- Awareness of internal/environmental triggers and behavioral patterns
- Problem solving exercises
- Meditation
- Relaxation exercises to help modify physical responses
- Strengthening mindfulness skills to help regulate mood
- Building mastery through gradual exposure to situations that are difficult to approach
